Mathieu Leduc: KCP, play by play
We ran across a very interesting and informative blog by current KCP student Mathieu Leduc, a French Canadian. He signed up for the summer term and liked KCP so much that he is staying on for the Fall semester. Matieu chooses aspects of life in Japan that we never would have thought of! His blog is called “A Hockey Guy in Tokyo.” We plan to check in often!
The start of his Tokyo posts–

Some excerpts–
“Yup, you can go buy a piece of pineapple on a stick.”
“At the School Athletic Festival of Chiyo, my host sister, the whole audience joined in Tai-Chi during the lunch break.”
“A class of boys doing handstands. Not sure why they’re required to be shirtless.”
Thanks to Mathieu’s strong encouragement to a classmate to try some sushi, he has earned the nickname 父さん (father).
The host family meals look incredible! Some random shots–
“Yes, this is how the Japanese serve burgers (plate in the middle, vertically): gravy and no buns.
Also those fries were AMAZING.”
“This is what I had tonight – udon with shrimp tempura…”
“Some pictures of Chiyo’s school – I never thought that anime-like
schools existed in real life, but they do.”
“Our next stop was a Buddhist temple on the same island. It’s customary for such temples to have statues of 神 (かみ, kami), or gods, at the entrance. They are typically red, have absurd abs, and are there to scare away any evil spirits that may wish to trouble those approaching the temple.”
“A legitimate tea company based out of Paris. Who would have guessed?”
