The Olympics are Coming to Tokyo

Since Japan gave us a spectacular sneak preview of what we can expect on the next grand event at the Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil, it’s kept Olympics fans at the edges of their seats! The long wait is almost over. Summer is coming to Tokyo and along with it is the much anticipated 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympic Games that only happen every four years, dubbed “Tokyo 2020”.

As early as July, the best of the best of the sporting world will descend on Japan’s capital and surrounding regions to take part in the chance to win the much-coveted gold medals. An estimated 600,000 visitors from all over the globe will come to witness the event. The whole country will surely be filled with excitement!

KCP’s Summer programs begin right before Tokyo 2020 starts

The 2020 Olympics will officially kick off with preliminary softball and soccer matches on the 22nd of July. The opening ceremony in Tokyo is on the 24th of July with events and festivities running through until the 9th of August. The Paralympics will begin on the 25th of August and will conclude on the 6th of September.

KCP’s Summer Short-term 2020 starts 23rd of June while the Summer term starts 6th of July. With a thrilling summer ahead, summer study is a great way to jump-start your Japanese skills and experience the Summer Olympics at the same time. Enjoy the festivities during your free time!

Hotel prices are considerable, KCP housing is affordable

The Olympic games will be held across nine prefectures all around Japan. Majority will take place in two areas of Tokyo: the Heritage Zone, using repurposed buildings from the 1964 Olympics; and Tokyo Bay Zone, which was designed to serve as a “model for innovative urban development.”  The Olympic Village will be home to more than 10,000 athletes coming from all around the world. Venues outside of the capital are the Sapporo Dome on the northern island of Hokkaido (hosting soccer) and the Fukushima Azuma Baseball Stadium in Fukushima.

It won’t be a surprise if hotels, Airbnb units, and other types of accommodations will be full or offer sky-high rates with the influx of locals and visitors alike converging to witness the Olympics.

When studying at KCP, depending on what suits your needs, there are several housing options to choose from. You can stay in a dormitory, independently, or with a Japanese family (homestay).

Tokyo and the whole of Japan will be brimming with energy!

With Tokyo 2020 happening, the entire country will be vibrant with unbridled energy! The whole world will be watching athletes compete for what they have been training so hard for.
