Japan Travelogue Series: Doraemon Museum
Doraemon, a manga series written and illustrated by Fujiko F. Fujio, was first serialized in 1969, compiled into 45 volumes, and published by Shogakukan from 1970 through 1996. The story revolves around an earless robotic cat named Doraemon who travels back to the 22nd century to help a bot named Nobita Nobi.
The manga catapulted to fame with three TV series adapted in 1973, 1979, and 2005 as well as numerous animated films spawning various merchandise, video games, and soundtrack albums. Amazon Kindle garnered the license for the manga series for the North American audience while Disney licensed the anime series. With Doraemon receiving numerous awards and having a global following, it has become one of the highest grossing media franchises of all time. The Doraemon character has been viewed as a Japanese cultural icon, and was appointed as the first “anime ambassador” of Japan in 2008.
