I liked that there were always opportunities to get involved with KCP and Japan in general.

Mia from Spring 2025

Which events or activities did you find the most satisfying and why?

I really enjoyed 運動会 and the cultural excursions. I felt like they gave a great insight into Japanese culture that I wouldn’t be able to get otherwise.

What were the most productive and interesting aspects of the program for you? The least interesting and productive?

I liked that there were always opportunities to get involved with KCP and Japan in general (clubs, KCP cafe, etc)

What activities or materials did you find most helpful (e.g., pair work, drill practice, tests, small group sessions, textbooks, games)?

Drill practice and tests were the most helpful for me because it really helps me to repeat grammar and vocabulary until I feel I have mastered it. Having tests nearly every day made me focus on studying different material thoroughly.

Any suggestions for improving class activities or materials?

More focus on kanji beyond the initial teaching of it would have been helpful.

What did you find most valuable in the Culture Course?

It was amazing to have Tanaka-san leading the cultural excursions and lectures because he provided so much more knowledge than I would have gotten from going to any of the locations on my own.

Anything you especially liked in the living arrangements? Any problems you experienced?

I liked having a common space so that I could interact with my roommates but also my own private bedroom.

Any comments or tips for prospective/new KCP students?

Make sure you know at least a bit of grammar and writing systems going into KCP, it was very helpful for me to have prior knowledge of Japanese. You cannot enter KCP as a complete beginner!

Testimonials

I love the full immersion and the difficult workload. Tests motivate me immensely, I enjoyed the vocabulary tests in particular.
